What in the World are Adaptogens, Anyways? The 'Happy Juice' Secret Weapon to Fighting Stress and Conquering Your Day!

Have You Heard of Adaptogens Yet?

What exactly are Adaptogens and How Do They Help You Fight Stress and Stay Energetic, Fit and Healthy?

You know that feeling after a great workout...feeling refreshed, full of endorphins, happy and ready to take on the day?

Or after an awesome bath or massage, just relaxed and happy?

My HAPPY Place!
Or just plain stress-FREE!?  As in AWESOME-NESS Galore!? ;)

THAT feeling!?

Yah, that's the feeling Adaptogens help with...oh I know...where do I get some, right? ;)

Well, recently I've been hearing more and more about the benefits of adaptogens and the benefit they have for our overall health.

I've been using a couple wellness products that contain adaptogens and experiencing the amazing and unique benefits and become more and more fascinated with the way they work and why!?

So, what are Adaptogens then and how do they help?
Simply put, Adaptogens are natural herbs that aid in your body's ability to deal with stress. (nice!)

What I find most fascinating about adaptogens is that they help to normalize the body, bringing you to center...and away from any extremes...

  • if you are feeling stressed or anxious, they help to calm you down and improve your ability to cope
  • if you are tired, they help to give you more energy
  • and even at night they can help you sleep better
  • no matter what state you may be in, high or low, they help to bring your body back to a more normal state...back to center :-)
As many of us have appropriately nicknamed it, it is our 'Happy Juice!' ;)

Adaptogens are the SECRET Weapon to Fight Against Stress!
It's easily become my new SECRET WEAPON for fighting stress and conquering my day!!

I seriously LOVE it!!!

According to MedicineHunter.com, Adaptogens greatly improve your body's ability to adapt to stress, whether it's a hectic schedule, heat or cold, noise, high altitudes or any number of other stressors. This elite class of herbs impart strength, energy, stamina, endurance, and they improve mental clarity. In many parts of the non-Western world adaptogens are used extensively in high-risk, fast-reflex occupations, from athletes to miners to deep sea divers. With the scientific data to back these natural wonders already available and more research under way, it is only a matter of time before adaptogens begin making their mark in the United States.

Adaptogens to look for to stay Energetic, Fit and Healthy:

The Adaptogens that I have currently been enjoying on a daily basis to help with both improving the ability to cope with stress as well as having more energy throughout the day and even sleeping more at night are:

  • Wolfberry (Lycium barbarum) is a red-orange berry of the Solanaceae nightshade family that includes tomato, eggplant, chili pepper, and potato. Ancient herbalists regarded Wolfberry as nourishing to the liver, kidney, and eyes. Modern studies support these traditional claims by showing that the extracts from Wolfberry have antioxidant properties and protect the body from oxidative stress.
  • Eleuthero root (Eleutherococcus senticosus) is a small, woody shrub native to Northeastern Asia. It has been used in China for more than 2,000 years as a natural remedy for reducing fatigue. Recent studies have also indicated eleuthero root to help maintain mental and physical performance under stressful conditions such as working in an emergency room.
  • Rhodiola (Rhodiola rosea) is a plant that grows in the coldest regions of the world, including Northern Asia. It’s been used as an herbal medicine for several centuries in Russia and Scandinavia to increase physical endurance, improve energy levels, and help resist high altitude sickness. In clinical trials Rhodiola has been shown to help strengthen the body’s resistance to stress.
  • Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), like Wolfberry, is a plant in the Solanaceae nightshade family and is native to the dry regions of India, North Africa, and the Middle East. It’s been an important component in Indian Ayurvedic medicine since ancient times, mostly for its restorative benefits. In recent studies Ashwagandha has demonstrated antioxidant effects (8,9). Studies have also shown it to support healthy brain and immune function.
  • Bacopa (Bacopa monniera) is a plant popular in traditional Indian medicine practices for the enhancement of memory and to promote longevity. Preclinical studies have shown it to have antioxidant and adaptogenic effects on the central nervous system.
  • Schizandra (Schisandra chinensis) is known as the “five flavor berry” because it contains all five of the basic flavors: sweet, salty, sour, pungent, and bitter. The berry grows as part of a woody vine native to the forests of Northern China and Eastern Russia. It has long been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to nourish the kidneys and heart. In human studies, schisandra has shown to increase work accuracy and antioxidant protection and decreased feelings of fatigue and exhaustion.

Toxic Fat: How Toxins Make You Fat and What you can do about it!

Do Toxins actually make you fat?? What is the connection between toxins and fat and what can you do about it? According to Dr. Mark Hyman, "Scientists recently uncovered a surprising and disturbing fact: environmental toxins make you fat and cause diabetes. Inside the body, these chemicals monkey with our ability to balance blood sugar and metabolize cholesterol. Over time, the changes can lead to insulin resistance. This discovery should be headline news but no one is talking about it. Why? Because there are no drugs to treat it. In the quest to conquer the two biggest epidemics of our time—diabetes and obesity—we’ve got to turn our attention to the heavy burden environmental toxins put on our bodies." As a direct result of all the toxins around us, in the air we breathe and the food we eat, our bodies are filled with toxins and our bodies literally use fat as a way to  protect our vital organs from those toxins. Do We Really Need Nutritional Supplements? Top 5 Reasons We Need to Supplement

Do I really need to supplement? Why is it so important, anyways? Well, in a perfect world, none of us would need to supplement because we'd be able to get all the nutrients we need to survive from the food we eat.  But due to the poor quality of our modern diet from chemicals, preservatives and toxins, daily stresses etc, few of us are able to get what we need even in the most strict of organic diets. According to Dr. Mark Hyman, "Most people don’t understand the role of vitamins and minerals in our bodies. I certainly didn’t when I finished medical training. I thought if we just had enough to prevent us from some horrible deficiency state like scurvy (vitamin C deficiency), then you didn’t have to worry about how much you were getting. I also thought that if you ate “enriched food” like white flour with a few vitamins added back in, or milk with vitamin D added in, additional vitamin supplementation was a waste." read his article here: ' Do you need n...
